When your vehicle feels a bit underpowered for cold weather starting, it’s about time you replace its OEM starter. Replacements for this part can be quite expensive. PROS
- Even though the Quality-Built starter was larger in size as compared to the original part, it still fitted the bell housing perfectly.
- The part is new and not a rebuilt starter. Visually, it was well-built and looks just as good as the original factory-installed unit.
- It is 50% heavier than the previously installed starter, which indicates more copper windings for increased efficiency.
- Aside from the complimentary Quality-Built roadside assistance program, the part also comes with a lifetime limited-warranty to boost its coverage.
CONS
- Installation was tricky. Most of the work requires temporarily removing different parts to gain access to the old starter motor.
- The part is labeled with a "Made in China" insigne. Although quality of its construction is quite impressive, the “Made in China” print was a bit of a turn off.
- Upon testing the starter, we observed that the bendix gear did not engage the flywheel properly. There was a grinding noise when we turned on the engine for the first time after installation. The noise quickly faded after repeated testing of the starter.
Our say
The Quality Built Supreme starter is well-built and features a heavy-duty construction for better reliability and performance. Its all-new components provide more efficient and longer lasting power for your vehicle. Although this starter is manufactured by a lesser-known and generic brand, it rivals more expensive starters when it comes to quality and durability. Do watch out for its installation though. To be on the safe side it is best to have the part installed by an experienced mechanic. Overall, this replacement part can provide your vehicle with a completely new starter instead of settling for less reliable, remanufactured replacement parts.
