AEM Voltmeters

Modified vehicles usually have more complicated systems and elements that need constant monitoring. Among such are the current voltage the charging system is transmitting when the engine is running and the current voltage across the battery terminals if the engine isn’t in operation. The current voltage needs to be closely monitored because if the voltage used by the vehicle is so much more than what it is supplied by the charging system, the battery will be drained. Conversely, if the charging system supplies so much voltage than what is needed, it can pose damage to the ECM, battery, and other electrical components. This is the reason modified vehicles are equipped with a voltmeter.

We fitted our ride with one of the known voltmeters in the market today—the AEM Voltmeter with digital display. Let’s see if it’s up to scratch.

• What we particularly love about this AEM voltmeter is its clear, easy-to-read display, which tells us the precise current voltage across the battery terminals. Should the LED display light fail, we have nothing to worry as the three-digit readout display at the center of the gauge will be there to save the day.
• The interchangeable face plates and bezels also deserve thumbs up as they allowed us to match the voltmeter’s looks with the rest of the gauges on the dash. It’s pretty much like purchasing four gauge designs but paying for just one.
• The auto-dimming gauge face is also a plus as we no longer need to take time turning the dial at the back of the gauge if we need to adjust the backlight. The gauge display does it all for us.

• Compared to other voltmeter display gauges, this one doesn’t come cheap, so this might not be the best choice for those who are on a tight budget.
• For drivers who are very much particular with warranty, this might not find this voltmeter’s warranty enticing. Longer and better coverage would have been perfect.

With working range of 8 to 18V, we can say that this AEM voltmeter pretty much fits the bill. For several months now, it has been providing us with accurate voltage reading without displaying any glitch or signs of malfunction. Its current appearance and interchangeable façade is just an icing on the cake. For people who value quality and performance more, the price won’t be much of a big deal.
